LABORATORY CONSULTATION SERVICES
WPM Laboratory Consultation Services was designed to assist busy Laboratorians by providing guidance and resources for compliance with government regulations and good laboratory practices.
WPM Pathology Laboratory employs an ASCP Certified Medical Technologist as a Laboratory Consultant with an extensive background and experience associated with CLIA, CAP, JCAHO, and COLA standards and inspections. Our Board-Certified Pathologists are also available for technical consultation services. These services are offered in addition to the routine client services. The services listed below are billed at fair market rate, and provided only by request and agreement.

Assistance in interpretation of CLIA regulations and staying abreast of changes or updates

Support with inspection preparation and processes

Assistance in determining personnel standards, complexity of testing, and instrumentation needs

Assistance with evaluating laboratory analyzers and equipment

Assistance with new method validation

Consultation for resolution of problems relating to Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA) and Proficiency Testing

Assistance with QC and calibration reviews and adjustments

Assistance with QA program building, documentation and improvement

Calibration of thermometers, centrifuges, and pipettes

Continuing education in-services and articles

Assistance in preparing and/or reviewing policy and procedure manuals

Assistance in designing and generating forms, logs and tools for record keeping

Assistance in interpretation of OSHA standards pertaining to laboratories, including staff training as required by Blood borne Pathogen standard

Assistance in CPT coding review.
Technical Consultant/Technical Supervisor – under the mandate of CLIA including the following duties and responsibilities:

Selection of test methodology appropriate for the clinical use of the test results.

Verification of the test procedures performed and the establishment of the laboratory’s test performance characteristics.

Enrollment and participation in an approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered.

Establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed.
-
Resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

Identifying training needs appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed.

Evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and assuring that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently.
